#ImAround

Hi everyone!

I haven’t forgotten about Bare With Me. I’ve just been focusing my energy on new and exciting experiences that will challenge me, stimulate me and hopefully, reenergize my entrepreneurial spirit.

I’m starting my own cosmetics line, 3:27 Cosmetics! This is something that I’ve wanted to do since 2012. I actually started talking the talk in 2015, when I officially registered my company, but became discouraged because of adulting issues. I stopped working on it for almost two years and started it up again in November (hence my last haul post). I’m still adulting and have issues, but I’m no longer going to allow those issues to stand in my way.

I encourage anyone reading this to live your dreams and don’t let fear overcome you and your potential.

It’s a risky road that I’m embarking on, but I’ve always embraced risk. I’m excited for this new chapter in my life. I invite you to follow me on my journey via my personal IG @gnvas and the cosmetics line’s IG @327cosmetics .

Cheers to having dreams and living them!

November Beauty Haul

This month, I did the most. Thankfully, I barely spent much money because a $100 Amazon gift card came through, Sephora’s VIB 20% off sale happened and not all the things I bought were expensive (yay, me!).

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette – first timer. Cute story.

My hard earned money well spent. I have been obssessed with this palette for a minute because of IG. Nearly every beauty blogger has this palette and raves about it, so I had to buy it because FOMO, duh. So, when I finally decided to close my eyes and make the purchase, I discovered the palette was nowhere to be found. I searched for months and months, but my efforts were futile. It was completely sold out. Then November XX happened. I was browsing sephora.com and decided to ‘heart’ all the things I wanted to buy. When my eyes fell upon this palette, I nearly lost my mind. It was in stock! I was about to purchase it on sight when I remembered there was a Sephora right downstairs from my office. On the move to Sephora, I decided to call the store just to see if they had the palette in stock. There was no need for unnecessary disappointment. When the sales associate returned to the line and told me they had the palette in stock, a huge smile took over my face. Complete bliss. My day was going well. It was the last palette left. Dare I say it was meant to be. There could have been more in the drawer, but that’s really none of my business. I’m just going to assume I snatched up the last palette. #Blessed.

Bioderma Sébium H2O – first timer

Amazon came through. Micellar water is the new facial cleanser, but I’m not really about that life, so I use it as a makeup remover and an eyeliner corrector. It’s especially good for the latter. Instead of using coconut oil to correct my newbie cat eye mistakes, I use this. It saves my life every time.

bioderma

Trader Joe’s Natural Facial Cleansing Pads – first timer

Hard earned money. This was like three bucks at TJ’s, and it’s been worth it, too. It’s especially nice to use after a long day’s work in the city. I swipe it across my face, focusing on my t-zone and any pimply areas. It downsizes pimples the very next day. I also like the fact that it has tea tree oil in it. It’s a natural antibacterial and so bomb for oily skin, read: drying out pesky pimples.

facial-pads

The Ordinary – first timer

Hard earned money. I bought the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum and Hyaluronic 2% + B5 serum. I’m enjoying them so far. They’re extremely inexpensive, which intrigued me. The Canadian company prides itself on “clinical formulations with integrity.” They’re selling us honesty in a bottle that will treat our various skin conditions at a price that’s unbeatable. These serums were five and six dollars. I’m in!

serums

Maybelline New York – repurchases

Forty percent off all Maybelline products. I love a promotion, so – of course, I had to get my Lash Discovery and Great Lash mascaras.

maybelline-mascaras

Nelsons Pure & Clean Acne Treatment Gel – first timer

Amazon came through. I heard this is what a lot of makeup artists use backstage on models when their skin isn’t on fleek. It’s supposed to cast away pimples.

nelsons

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant – first timer

Hard earned money. I was looking for something that would make the texture of my skin smoother, and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) is the thing because it’s good for exfoliating, getting rid of dead skin and allowing new skin to grow, minimizing blemishes and much more. It’s particularly good for those with oily skin. The most common BHA is salicylic acid an it’s typically used for treating acne. I don’t have much of an acne problem, but I do have a texture situation that I’m not too fond of. Aside from the bumpiness that I sometimes see and the occasional pimple, my skin and I don’t have any issues. You’re probably thinking I’m crazy for rubbing acid on my face, but nah. BHAs are organic acids that can be found occurring in nature.

paulas-choice

Murad Anti-Anging Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – first timer

Sephora 20% off. I was in the market for new sunscreen. I’ve been using Coola, and although that’s a fine product, I was over it and wanted to try something new. Perhaps I’ll circle back to it once summer decides to say hi again.

murad

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask – first timer

Sephora 20% off. I read somewhere that it is an effective charcoal mask that’s suitable for oily skin, so I decided to give it a try. I bought the travel size, just in case. I currently use the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay Mask.

This was a great month in beauty and skincare. So much joy. I’ll see you all in December. 🙂

Product Review: NYX Lipstick Haul

I’ve been meaning to do a lip swatch video of the NYX products I bought a few months ago, but as the days went by, I couldn’t fade recording or editing a video. Blame it on the cold weather. So, I decided to share my thoughts the old fashioned way, in writing.

I don’t even remember when I bought these products, but I’ve had enough time to decide if I like them or not. I like them. I particularly like the Soft Matte Lip Creme in Abu Dhabi, which is not pictured because I purchased it in the spring. I don’t know what my lip life was like before wearing Abu Dhabi. It’s perfect. I wear it all the time when I can’t make up my mind about another lip color to wear. It’s my safety blanket.

I’ll discuss Abu Dhabi in another post, though. Today, it’s all about these five colors:

nyx-haul-2

In general, these products are highly pigmented, don’t stay on all day and immediately begin fading after eating lol. They’re comfortable on the lips and not overly drying.

Lip Lingerie in Beauty Mark – I would describe this product as a muted brown with purple undertones. I enjoy when this color starts to fade because it looks like a natural stain. At the end of the day, the color looks like my lips, and I don’t mind that. The only annoying thing is that texture wise, it feels a bit sticky.

Lip Lingerie in Teddy – I would describe this product as a grayish, muted brown. The same sentiments about Beauty Mark apply to Teddy. When it starts to fade, it looks great. I usually don’t ever reapply this color because it looks better with time. Again, the texture is a bit sticky, but it kind of subsides as the day progresses.

Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Club Hopper – I would describe this color as a purplish brown. Again, the color looks like a natural lip stain as the day progresses. I like that. When first applying, the hue is very rich. It’s comfortable on the lips from what I can remember when I last wore it. It’s a cream, so it won’t give you a matte finish, but instead a subtle sheen.

Soft Matte Lip Creme in Transylvania – I would describe this color as violet. It’s creamy when you first apply it and then dries down matte. It doesn’t last very long at all, and because I have a pink bottom lip, I have to apply this like a million times just to cover it. A lot of color doesn’t come out on the doe foot applicator, which I absolutely hate about the Soft Matte Lip Creme line. Otherwise, it’s comfortable to wear.

Soft Matte Lip Creme in Copenhagen – I would describe this as a berry red. The same sentiments about Transylvania apply to Copenhagen. When these colors start to fade, though, they look a hot ass mess lol. I find myself either wiping off or adding more product. Usually it’s the former. I do enjoy using these colors as a top layer to other lipstick brands. They usually makes those other brands’ colors last longer. Go figure!

That’s about all I have to say about these products. As always, thanks for reading my post. What are some of your favorite drugstore lip brands, if any?

Setting Sprays For Oily Skin

By now, you know I have oily skin. Finding a setting spray that will check my sebum production at the door is key, but difficult. Trial and error is annoying, time consuming and costly. However, thank me later because I’ve done some of the searching for you. Below are three products I’ve tried and two more that I want to try:

setting-sprays
Left: NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray. Middle: Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray. Right: M.A.C Prep + Prime Fix+ Spray

NYX Matte Finish Setting Spray

This doesn’t do a damn thing for me besides keep my makeup in place. It does nothing for controlling shine. In fact, it makes my face oiler, therefore, it doesn’t do much to solidify its claim of achieving a ‘matte finish.’ The only benefit is its cost. It’s the cheapest out of the three products in the photo above.

Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray

This is very similar to the NYX product. It keeps my makeup in place, but it doesn’t control shine. After spraying, my face is always oiler than normal. I had high hopes for this brand because people rave about it. Thank goodness I bought the travel size.

M.A.C Prep + Prime Fix+ Spray

It looks like water, so you’d think it wouldn’t be effective, but looks can be deceiving. This product is the truth; it’s my holy grail setting spray. It also does a great job of combating shine and keeping my makeup in place. My makeup stays matte for hours, and I don’t really need to blot my t-zone, but I still do because of habit. Prep + Prime is a multi-use setting spray, too. I also use it to dampen my Real Techniques Complexion Sponge for blending foundation and concealer or add moisture to my contour palette. I used this product in the photo above, and I only had to blot once. This photo was taken when I got home at like three in the morning. Face was still popping!

I still want to try the Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer and Boscia White Charcoal Mattifying Makeup Setting Spray. I heard these were good, but I won’t be holding my breath.

What are some of your favorite setting sprays? Let me know in the comments section below.

Video: My Deepest Regrets

I purchased a few things that I am not proud of, and I regret it.

In the video, I talk about two colors/formulas from Milani that are not as uncomfortable as the others. Those colors are Glamour and Emotion.

Products mentioned in this video include:

  1. Milani Amore Matte Lip Cremes that I mentioned here. See me wearing Dearest, Glamour and Emotion here.
  2. Be The Skin Botanical Pore Toner
  3. Biologique Recherche Lotion P50V 1970 Balancing Exfoliator Toner
  4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood and American Doll
  5. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Beeper. See me wearing Beeper here.

Thanks for watching this video! Feel free to comment or ask me any questions. Subscribe to my site to keep up with me, too! 🙂

October Beauty Haul

I feel like I’m a legit lipstick blogger lol. I have acquired so many kinds over the past decade and even repurchased a few this month. Not to mention, I feel like I post about lipsticks a lot more than anything else. I’m planning on reorganizing my lip collection soon because I have so many that I don’t use or even want. My style has changed, and I know myself now more than ever before – so a carefully curated lip collection is necessary.

October brought me many first-time pleasures:

Laura Mercier

  1. Translucent Setting Powder – first timer

laura-mercier

Kiko Milano

  1. Invisible Lip Liner – first timer to this brand, but not clear lip liners. I love them! It’s a must-have item in a lip arsenal.

kiko-milano-2

M.A.C

  1. Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Indianwood and Quite Natural – first timer
  2. Select Cover-Up Concealer NW45 – repurchase. I use it to define my eyebrows here and here.
  3. Angle Brush #266 – repurchase. I needed another angle brush for doing gel eyeliner because I found myself using the same brush for my eyebrows. I really like using this brush for gel eyeliner because it’s sturdy and already has an angle tip to help guide my “flicks.”
  4. Cremesheen Glass in Boy Bait – repurchase. This shade was my life in high school/college and it’s still applicable to my entire being.
  5. Lipglass in Explicit – repurchase. This shade was my life in high school/college and it still has relevance.

NYX

  1. Lingerie in Teddy and Beauty Mark – first timer
  2. Soft Matte Lip Cream in Transylvania and Copenhagen – first timer to these shades. I love this line. It’s not long lasting at all, and I’m a bit skeptical about the “matte” claims, especially with these two shades. However, I like the creaminess of the products and the fact that it’s not overly drying. I swear by the shade “Abu Dhabi.” It’s hands down my favorite nudish matte. I’m wearing it in the photos here and here.
  3. Liquid Suede in Club Hopper – first timer
nyx-lingerie
Top Lingerie (L: Beauty Mark, R: Teddy), Middle: Liquid Suede in Club Hopper, Bottom Soft Mate Lip Cremes (L: Transylvania, R: Copenhagen)

The end. I’ll see you all in November. 🙂

Lash Lady

This past summer, I rediscovered an old love. Eyelash strips. I had a thing for them when I was in college; I used Ardell for a bit, and I even had a pair from M.A.C. I’ve tried eyelash extensions twice, maybe thrice. The only thing I don’t like about extensions is the fall out. In my experience, once a bunch have fallen out, a few are left and won’t come off. So, I walk around looking crazy. I understand you’re supposed to get them filled every two weeks or professionally removed, but back then I didn’t have fill or pro removal money. Now that I’m fake ballin’, I can exercise these options, but I think strips are much easier to deal with even though they can be a b*^%! to apply. Anyway, summer ’16 happened, and I became obsessed.

Left; Top: Jackie, Monroe, Ciara. Right; Top: Dimma, Gigi, Naomi

Enter Lena Lashes. I was watching YouTuber Peakmill’s (obsessed with her, too) hair/makeup tutorial one day this past summer, and she mentioned using the brand. After I found the brand on Instagram, I quickly familiarized myself with its eyelash products. I purchased Naomi a few weeks later, and I’m here to tell you that Naomi is the truth. So bomb. In fact, it has yet to tell me a lie, so I purchased five more strips from Lena Lashes lol. It’s the perfect length and has the perfect amount of separation and fluff. Naomi complements my eye shape perfectly and I always get compliments when I’m wearing it.

Ciara is similar, but a bit too long, so I don’t wear it often. Jackie is nice. It’s more subtle and flared at the end, so it enhances the shape of my eyes. I haven’t worn Monroe, Dimma or Gigi, yet.

mascara

As for mascara, I have two favorites. I’m really into mascaras that lengthen and separate. I’m not too crazy about volume in regards to mascara. When I want volume, I tend to wear lash strips, and that’s usually for nightlife. Any other time, I have on either Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara or Maybelline Lash Discovery Mascara. These two get the job done when it comes to length and separation, especially Lash Discovery. It does a great job at making me look more awake because it really opens my lashes. It doesn’t clump, either. The Benefit one is great at length, separation and volume. I redeemed my points at Sephora and got this one in the sample size. I’m glad I chose it! I’ll be getting the full size soon. The only downside is that it clumps. This can be easily avoided if you don’t pile on too much at one time, though. When it comes to mascara, I believe it’s the brush that achieves results and not the formula. Both of these mascaras have great wands, so I get great results.

These are my go-to lash products. I’m open to trying other lash brands, so if anyone has favorites, please share!

September Beauty Haul

The first of September seriously started yesterday and today is already the last day. Crazy. Anyhow, I bought a few things this month. Actually, I bought a lot of things this month thanks to Milani, Nars, Givenchy and Embryolisse. I feel like I bought some other things, but I don’t remember. I really should’ve been doing posts like this since I started this blog in July, but there’s no time like the present, right? Ok, I completely forgot – my bad.

Milani

I purchased five more Amore Matte Lip Cremes. I mentioned in the Milani product review video how #blessed I was to have discovered these five colors.

milani

Nars

  1. I finally got my hands on Pure Radiant in Polynesia. I swear it’s either sold out in my shade when I’m ready to purchase it or summertime happens lol (you can read about my summertime struggle here).
  2. I bought the Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base for the first time. I might do a review of this and the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer soon. Stay tuned. What’s funny is I don’t even where eyeshadow like that, but I own these two tubes. Smh. I think I might’ve said why I use eyeshadow primer in a video. If not, I’ll reveal my beauty tip soon.
  3. I couldn’t help myself, so I bought the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu. It’s all the rave, all the time. FOMO, so I had to buy it.
nars

Givenchy

I also finally got around to buying the Mister Mat Primer. I sampled a bit on the back of my hand, and my eyes bulged out. It has a matte finish with no white cast, which means I can where it alone. Hopefully, I’ll fall in love with it once it goes on under my face makeup. It’s supposed to be bomb for oily skin, and I’m looking forward to trying it out with bae (Urban Decay Weightless foundation). I talked about my holy-grail primers here, so I would love this to be a part of that list. Fingers crossed.

givenchy

Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre

This is my third tube of French goodness. I love it. It does everything and then some. If you have dry skin, you can use it as a primer. It can also be used as a hand cream, eye cream, makeup remover, moisturizer, etc. The possibilities are endless. I use it as a hand cream, makeup remover and eye cream. In fact, they made a product that just targets under eye concerns, but this cream will get the job done, too. It’s rich, yet lightweight. Ya’ll already know I have oily skin, so I would never use it as a daytime face moisturizer. Although, I sometimes use it as a face cream at bedtime in the winter.

embryolisse

That’s all for now. September is over today, so I’ll see you all in October. 🙂
